Craphole Island

WE HAVE TO GO BLLLLLLLLLLLLOG!!!

Charlie Hume

Desmond named his son Charlie in honor of his fellow United Kingdomite, whose fatal fate he could not prevent, but whose sacrifice led to the reunion of Desmond and his lady love Penny.

And now time travel seems to be more integral to the show than ever imagined, as those left behind on Craphole Island have become “unstuck” in time. Judging by the opening scene from this season (wherein Daniel Faraday was a DHARMA construction worker), we can imagine that Faraday and Co. will end up (for at least a relatively long period of time) in the late 70’s, when DHARMA was establishing itself on Craphole Island.

Desmond, Penny, and Charlie are all (unwisely) heading to LA to find Mama Faraday (also known as “Ellie” or “Eloise Hawking”), who is serving as travel coordinator for Ben and Jack on their mission to get the band back together and head to the island. And Ben swore to Charles Widmore that he would murder Penny for Charles’ men taking the life of Alex. Hurm.

The question is: when the Humes arrive at Hawking’s Time Control Center and Ben discovers them, will he murder Penny outright, or will he threaten to do so in order to get Desmond to join the gang again via blackmail? My guess is the threat, as Ben (at the moment) isn’t even aware that Desmond escaped the island with the Oceanic 6. Remember: not even Charles Widmore knew Desmond was off the island, and I’m not sure how much Jack (even in his weirdly trusting state) would tell Ben. When Ben realizes that they will need Desmond too, he will reluctantly agree to not kill Penny. In exchange, Desmond goes with…as do Penny and Charlie. Ben will want to keep Penny near, in case he needs special leverage against Widmore in the battle that is yet to come.

After that, who knows. Will they end up back in time, forward in time, somewhere else altogether? What will happen is that someone (likely Desmond) will take Charlie off the island at some point, possibly after Penny’s life is taken away. Leaving the island will lead to another timewarp, taking them to the late 70’s/early 80’s…and Desmond will leave his son Charlie at the steps of a nice looking house in London - the Pace home. The Paces will raise him as their own, never telling him the secret of how they came to have him. He will grow up a Catholic boy with a love of music, start a band with his brother Liam, get addicted to smack, and crash onto an island. He’ll fall in love, meet a Scotsman named Desmond, and die to save Desmond…his father. And Desmond will lose a friend and a son, although he won’t know it then.

Just a theory.
